What is Pedal the Plains?

It’s Official!  The inaugural Pedal the Plains bicycle tour is an annual three-day ride across Colorado’s High Plains. The announcement of the route for this inaugural event was made by Governor Hickenlooper.  The ride will begin in Yuma, travel to Wray, then to Burlington and back to Yuma.  A celebration of Colorado cycling culture, this landmark event combines great rides, delicious eats, and close friends.

The Denver Post and the state of Colorado have joined together to create this unique event set in the heart of western agriculture, home of the frontier spirit that inspires all of us to keep pedaling.

The Steering Committee appointments for this historical event are being made and details are being planned.  Contact the Yuma Chamber office to volunteer or find ways for your business & organization to get involved.

Visit http://northeastrpd.org/ for details.  Northeast Rural Philanthropy Days (RPD) is a collaborative program that builds excellence among the nonprofit and social service agencies that support our communities. Which brings financial support and professional development opportunities to community, arts, and environmental organizations in our region of northeast Colorado (Cheyenne, Elbert, Kit Carson, Lincoln, Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Yuma and Washington counties)

The event features nonprofit development workshops and networking opportunities that convene representatives of foundations and nonprofits from the Denver Metro area with local foundations and government leaders for three days of capacity building workshops and funder roundtables. This event, coordinated in collaboration with Community Resource Center (CRC), allows grant seekers from our region to build partnerships with foundations based on the front range of Colorado.

Direct and indirect benefits of RPD include:     Increased support from grant makers to rural communities, Elevated recognition by rural community members of the value of the nonprofit sector, Improved collaboration between rural nonprofits, local government, and businesses, Enhanced skills and knowledge of rural nonprofit professionals, and Improved understanding of rural Colorado by grant makers.

 The Community Message Board is once again available to advertise local events on the corner of Hwy. 34 and Main Street. Many thanks to the Board and Staff at the Northeast Colorado Revolving Loan Fund for donating the space for the sign. Thanks, also, to Butch Berry for all of his help in moving the sign. 

This sign was originally an Eagle Scout project designed by Jared Josh to provide a way for non-commercial entities in our community to share their information. The sign was donated to the Yuma Chamber office when the family moved from our community several years ago.  Please contact the Chamber office to reserve the sign for your next event. There is a charge of $25/week to use the sign to assist with maintenance and utility expenses.
